Wenxuan Liu joined the Genea Biocells team on August 29, 2017 as a Senior Scientist. Dr. Liu earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology in 2012 from Nankai University in Tianjin, China. She then began her graduate studies at the University of Rochester and joined the laboratory of Dr. Joe Chakkalakal. Her thesis project was focused on determining the importance of muscle stem cells in the regeneration of neuromuscular junctions upon nerve injury and the maintenance of skeletal muscle during aging processes. After earning her Ph.D. in Genetics, Dr. Liu moved to San Diego to further her interests on muscle stem cell and neuromuscular research. Here at Genea Biocells, Dr. Liu is applying her background in skeletal muscle biology towards therapeutic drug discovery for rare neuromuscular diseases using disease-affected human pluripotent stem cells and diverse state-of-the art drug-screening platforms.
